If you are into health and fitness, you’ve probably noticed that most popular diet plans encourage you to eat every few hours. Why is that?
Does not eating enough make us fat or unhealthy? So, how often should you eat? The answer actually depends on so many factors including your age, weight, gender, activity level lifestyle, and fitness goal.
According to nutrition experts, it is best to have:
- 3 balanced meals of 350 to 600 calories;
- 1 to 3 snacks of 150 to 200 calories per day.
Besides, you need to make sure you don’t go longer than 5 hours or so without eating. Going without food for a prolonged period of time leads to bad food choices, including fast food or high-calorie treats.
Another popular diet plan is eating larger but less frequent meals. Following this, you will eat only two large meals of 500 calories each.
A very recent study suggests eating small balanced meals every 3 to 4 hours boosts your body’s fat-burning potential. Nonetheless, you can try whichever meal plan you feel is convenient for you, but make sure you are counting your calories and getting all the essential micronutrients for your body.
